CXG2 FMS Lat/Long

Post by carlt2000 » Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:37 pm

Is there a way to manually enter a LAT/LONG waypoint in the FMS?

I've looked around online and have not been able to find an answer.

The first question is why would you need to?

Because he wants to fly a hold over his house, been there, done that. :)

I picked this up somewhere in the forum here, don't remember where or who posted it but I saved it to a txt file at the time. Full credit (and gratitude) to whoever posted it:

place/bearing/distance: pppp/bbb/dd.d
coordinates: Nddmm.mmWdddmm.mm

For 1 example, when using PFPX to plan a flight it will use the winds aloft as an influence on the flight route. When planning a flight from Hawaii to Alaska, it had me following the winds for the best tail wind over the pacific ocean. In doing so, it used a couple Lat/Long coordinates.

Same concept would apply when trying to fly a NAT to/from Europe and North America.

NATs are precoded waypoints... have been for years. They have a specific naming convention that I don't recall... but if you follow the naming convention when inputting the NAT waypoints... you'll get the correct track.

An internet search for NATS yields a wiki for those interested. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atl ... e_planning
